WHO ARE WE?

Salt and Light International Ministries (SLIM) was commissioned by The Holy Spirit in 2011 based on the inspired Word of God in Matthew 5:13-16. Our mission is to put HIS LOVE into action – show the love of Jesus Christ through our deeds, initiatives, and programs that shine His Light into our local and global communities. SLIM believes that the local church, organizations, and ministries are in the best position to assess and address their community’s spiritual, physical, and health needs. SLIM, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization partners with churches, shelters, community centers, government agencies, ministries, schools, and clinics to provide whatever resources and services are needed to disrupt these three major poverty impacts in our communities:

We disrupt generational poverty by giving single women with children a chance to thrive and help their families thrive! We provide resources to single moms, widows, and orphans in our local communities and globally based on their defined short- and long-term goals. SLIM partners with government agencies, local community organizations, and churches to assist families in crisis. We assist with housing, fresh foods, diapers/clothes/haircuts, and basic day-to-day needs; we provide spiritual support to help families grow in their faith; we foster children with health needs whose families need respite; we provide childcare while families work to improve their lives. By doing this, we show that HIS LOVE breaks chains and sets families free!

We disrupt poor health outcomes associated with poverty and lack of education by partnering with local health organizations and global ministries and organizations to provide health-related services and resources to people with serious chronic health conditions such as Malaria, Sickle Cell Anemia, Beta Thalassemia, HIV, Hypertension and Diabetes Mellitus. By doing this, we show that HIS LOVE brings healing!

We disrupt the devastating impact of spiritual poverty in our local communities and in the world at large by: promoting evangelism outreaches to sharing the Word of God (Bible distribution, spiritual materials, sponsoring Bible study, etc..); helping local churches and global organizations teach the Word of God to strengthen our communities; partnering with churches and local organizations to address the everyday needs of widows and orphans. By doing this, we show how HIS LOVE saves and replenishes our soul!

What do we do?

Generational poverty disruptor!

Generational poverty has a cure. You! The Center for American Progress says that single mothers in the United States face economic insecurity, including high poverty rates and low incomes, which could be alleviated by strengthening the social safety net. The solution, we all know, is that the safety net must include you and me! Government agencies alone are not the answer. SLIM disrupts generational poverty by meeting women where they are: whether struggling to care for their children; striving to advance their education or careers; or providing better opportunities for their children to break the cycle of poverty. SLIM comes alongside women and children to assist with housing, fresh foods, diapers/clothes/haircuts, and basic needs; we provide spiritual support to help them grow in their faith; we foster children with health needs whose families need respite(HISLOVEFostercare.org); we provide child care and safe spaces where children can be mentored as hardworking moms work or go to school to improve their lives. These seemingly small efforts offer the safety net women and children need to disrupt generational poverty, and you can help by partnering with SLIM.

Poverty-to-poor health outcomes disruptor!

We can all agree that everyone should have access to quality health care, right?. Sadly, for millions in ur communities and around the world, basic healthcare is a luxury and not a right. You can partner with SLIM to disrupt this inequity!

SLIM partners with local organizations such s health clinics, community centers, churches, ministries, even NGOs to provide vital supplies, donate medicines, testing kits, pharmaceuticals to help manage chronic conditions such as Sickle Cell Anemia, diabetes, hypertension, HIV, and to disrupt potentially deadly acute conditions such as malaria in vulnerable communities. We even organize foreign medical trips to help strengthen public health systems. SLIM also improves healthcare outcomes even in developed nations like the USA by providing medical transportation to appointments, implementing programs to assist with medication compliance, promoting healthy nutrition by supporting low-income families with healthy groceries. We partner with local churches and ministries to support pregnant women with prenatal care and transportation to prenatal appointments to improve maternal mortality. Prominent in SLIM’s work is to offer spiritual support through prayer and by sharing the Word of God and HIS LOVE with all who we serve.

We believe that faith is essential in our success in life and it is the essential glue for healthy, thriving families and communities. Spiritual poverty can significantly impact the world by leading to a lack of meaning, purpose, and connection to something larger than oneself, which can manifest in Moral decline, Lack of purpose, Mental health issues, Social disconnection, Increased substance abuse, and Vulnerability to exploitation. SLIM partners with local and global community churches and ministries to disrupt the devastating impact of spiritual poverty by sharing the Word of God (Bible distribution, spiritual materials, sponsor Bible study, etc..); helping local churches teach the Word of God to strengthen our families hence communities; and by addressing the everyday needs of widows, single parents, and orphans in local churches.
